the bbc reports about a applying physics models to the dating world. dangerous quote: “the research suggested that multiple daters, those who form many relationships, were less effective at finding the right partner than those who remained in one place and let others come to them.”
more jobs at mysql
it occurred to me that i mentioned the product engineer position, but there are a number of other jobs at mysql that are open, including web developer.
stefan esser has dug up and fixed more php xml-rpc vulnerabilities, and best of all, has worked with the package maintainers to purge them of their use of eval()
.
stefan can be a bit of a blowhard, but it’s excellent work like this that makes that easier to swallow.
cole’s pacific electric buffet is putting on a blood drive on august 26th, inspired by cole’s regular, and downtown resident, laura.
no, i won’t be using this as an opportunity to run a harvey mudd triathlon.
football season is nigh — the vikings have already won one meaningless preseason game, and their second meaningless preseason game against the new york jets will actually be on cbs on friday night.
looking at the regular season schedule, it seems there’s only two other games that will obviously be nationally broadcast — a monday night game against the packers, and a sunday night game on christmas against the ravens.
the new ownership might be good for the vikings, although they don’t win any points for expecting two-thirds of the new stadium costs to be picked up by taxpayers. but at least they’re saying the right things about moving the team being off the table.
as nice as it might be to have a football team in los angeles again, i don’t think i could have ever come to terms with it being yet another team stolen from minnesota.
accurate character assessment, or self-fulfilling prophecy?
“he’s a nice guy, until you get to know him. then he’s a real jerk.” — sara introducing me to a new coworker, circa 1990.
it looks like fiona apple’s extraordinary machine is finally going to get an official release, after having been reworked with another producer. it will be interesting to see if that was a good idea.
brad implemented a stream of atom updates from livejournal, which is sort of like the blo.gs cloud interface on steroids. nifty.
foo camp is this weekend, so that means that the feedmesh thing is a year old now. and speaking of that, put me in the jason shellen “not invited, but whatever” camp and not the russell beattie “not invited, and they kicked my puppy” camp.
at the tofu festival, i think i got three or four comments from people that liked the shirt i was wearing.
i’m annoyed that this shirt is no longer available in my size, and am tempted to get this shirt.
but i am cheap, and don’t like paying $15 for t-shirts. i’ll bide my time for the next sale.

there will be a screening of repo man in downtown los angeles at a parking lot near third street and santa fe avenue, on august 27 at 8:15pm. it’s the capper for a road-rally that will be occuring the same day. tickets for the movie are $14 in advance, $18 at the door.
there will even be space to watch the movie drive-in style. and a bunch of cast and crew will be participating in a q&a after the screening.
