pride is a strictly by-the-numbers sports underdog movie, with horribly clunky dialogue. terrence howard’s performance is good (as is bernie mac’s), but in no way is it enough to save this clunker.
me and you and everyone we know has some good performances, but it falls flat because it tries too hard to be precious and quirky and profound but ends up annoying and cloying and dull.
the bourne identity is a passable action movie, but not much more than that. i think i have entered a bleak spot in my netflix queue.
“the more you drive, the less intelligent you are.”
there will be a screening of repo man in downtown los angeles at a parking lot near third street and santa fe avenue, on august 27 at 8:15pm. it’s the capper for a road-rally that will be occuring the same day. tickets for the movie are $14 in advance, $18 at the door.
there will even be space to watch the movie drive-in style. and a bunch of cast and crew will be participating in a q&a after the screening.
“the life of a repo man is always intense.”
it’s pretty remarkable how good pirates of the caribbean: the curse of the black pearl is. with a running time over two hours, it seems like it should be too long. and being based on a ride at disneyland seems like a bad idea. as it was, from that i’ve heard, for the haunted mansion.
but it all fits together pretty remarkably well. depp’s performance as keith richards as a pirate is inspired. and the few hat-tips to the ride are perfect. above all, the movie is fun.
wedding crashers manages to be funny despite numerous flaws, and i think one major reason is because isla fisher steals every scene she is in. (and let’s just say that the cameo near the end of the film will be no big shock if you know the new gay mafia membership roster.)
