less of me to hate
here’s a graph of my weight for almost two years. except for that big straight line between january and july this year, i’ve been pretty consistent in weighing myself daily. since july, i’ve also been consistent in weighing myself at the same time each day, which wasn’t really the case before. even then, there are sometimes funny swings in my weight that help reinforce that it’s not a good idea to get wrapped up in the day-to-day numbers.
the trend has been aggressive since july — i’ve lost just about two pounds per week. i had a bit of a goal to get down to 220 by my birthday, but that isn’t going to happen. and to be honest, i didn’t expect it to happen when i set it. maybe i’ll be there by thanksgiving. certainly by the end of the year, unless i jump the rails again.
after that, my long term goal is really to get down to around 200. but that is a long way off.
for the curious, my approach to losing weight has been very simple — exercise more (five days a week at the gym) and eat less (mostly by cutting out crap i shouldn’t eat in the first place, but also by eating out less). the only thing i’m tracking is my weight, i just haven’t had the patience to deal with any sort of calorie-counting.
it had better be tonight
meglio stasera, baby, go go go!— “it had better be tonight,” lyrics by johnny mercer, music by henry mancini
or as we natives say, fa subito.
if you’re ever gonna kiss me
it had better be tonight
while the mandolins are playing
and stars are bright.
if you’ve anything to tell me
it had better be tonight
or somebody else may tell me
and whisper the words just right.
meglio stasera, baby, go go go!
or as we natives say, fa subito.
for this poor americano
who knows little of your speech
be a nice italiano
and start to teach.
show me how in old milano
lovers hold each other tight
but i warn you sweet paisano,
it had better be tonight.
meglio stasera, baby, go go go!
or as we natives say, fa subito
she sets the summer sun on fire
the los angeles times interviews christine moore of the little flower candy company, who makes what sound like delicious caramels.
speaking of candy, candy blog is one of the coolest blogs i’ve found through lablogs.com. but after my bad reaction to the last candy bar i had, i’ve been staying away from chocolate bars. very sad.
when leonard got in touch with me to pick my brain a little bit about the blo.gs acquisition experience, i didn’t have an inkling that he would be joining yahoo! along with the rest of the upcoming.org team.
congrats!
when i look at the hobbled state of blo.gs, i lament, a little bit, my decision to not go to yahoo with the site.
ugh. so much more i could say. but no more angsty bullshit.
the los angeles press club is hosting a panel on the politics of science journalism tonight. conveniently located near the vermont and sunset red line station.
craigh hughes beat me to sharing the thought about the performance of spammed stocks that i meant to — sell them short.
this askmefi question is the latest of a recurring theme of questions. here are some other variations on that theme. (no, i did not ask any of them.)
i wonder if there are other recurring themes on askmefi that would make a good movie.
the producers guild of america is doing a benefit for the los angeles conservancy at the orpheum on saturday, october 15th with a cocktail reception, vaudeville show and screening of the freshman with accompaniment on the 1928 mighty wurlitzer organ. tickets are available from ticketmaster for $40 plus the $5.75 “convenience” charge and $2.50 for the privilege of printing out the tickets at home (or more to mail them, or no charge to pick them up at will call).
no serenity yet, but the aristocrats is playing at the laemmle grande this weekend.
back to the past
looks like blo.gs has had some sort of major hiccup. the latest updates are from june 14, 2005. also known as the day yahoo took over.
what’s odd is that it is only reporting about 7.5 million blogs, and i’m pretty sure the database was bigger than that at the time.
maybe once they get it sorted out they’ll update that news page that has been so quiet these last few months. (and add that link to happygofun they’re supposed to put on the about page.)
the lack of communication is costing them users.
