janice hahn wants to give the los angeles mall a makeover, and i’m not sure i see the point. i just can’t see how it will ever start getting any after-hours or weekend traffic.
revitalizing broadway is a different story, though. the momentum there is definitely building, including all sorts of residential developments.
you should also check out the great photos accompanying steve lopez’s article about nathaniel ayer’s visit to walt disney hall. (the article is great, too.)
tony pierce posted an excellent list of birthday freebies, to which i would add the free birthday cake at clifton’s cafeteria.
the aristocrats is a very funny documentary. i think my favorite rendition of the joke is the one by the mime, although the south park version is also great.
you’ll have to dig for the info on the chinatown business improvement district website (stupid frames), but they have a monthly 2½-hour walking tour called “undiscovered chinatown” that sounds great.
it’s also booked up through the end of the year. something to keep an eye on for next year, i guess.
a couple of months ago, rafe passed along the clever idea of uploading wine labels to flickr to track wines you like (or don’t).
i’m not usually a huge wine fan, but this eagle & rose estate 1999 cabernet sauvignon was what i had with dinner last night, and it was tasty. i guess my “buy a random wine from trader joe’s” strategy was bound to pay off eventually.
i usually end up opening a bottle of red wine to make tomato sauce and then recorking it, keeping it around way too long, and then making more sauce with it. no such problem this time. (except now i’m out of wine.)
i was checking out the schedule of nfl games on fox 11 for the rest of the season, and when i realized that i was only going to get to see maybe three or four more vikings games this year, i decided i had to take drastic measures to rectify that.
time to stock up on cider.
