mta strike

Yup. The last one (3 years ago, doesn't actually seem like that long ago) lasted over a month. Forced me to join the parking cult at work again. Dangit.

the bits i keep hearing about the union and the mta being far apart in negotiations does not fill me with optimism.

How we could get to work from 321 S.San Vicente and 3rd street and we usually take the line 16,316,or we couldn't go to the bank on beverly and farifax and we took line 14 so we supposed to wait until the bus start run again let me know how we should get work ? after we took 16 or 316 to century city and constellation and get culver city green bus #3 going washington and overland , that is number one trip 2 nd trip we needed to go to the 310 n. farifax ave and beverly , and my counseling on wilshire blvd and kingsley 3580 wilshire first we took from s. san vicente and la cieega take metro bus 105 and transfer the bus 20 or 21 to wilshire and kingsley , also we want to know if we could take today 218 and go to the library near pacific design center west hollywood library and we not sure if we could take # 218 to the public library? please send me email message about how we could different way to some place with different transportation irina kovelman 10-18-03

this is the worst transportation service in the whole united states. i do believe that a part of it is a problem with the management, but when management already talk and give the union some slack, they should try to agree mid way. this union officers should be remove from the office, their full of corruption and try to get more money telling the members that there's a problem and we need to go on strike. think of another transportation service that have more strike than this one. the union was build because of the wrong doings of past business office, now they are the one whose doing the wrong thing!

Fuck all the the mta mechanics i havent been to school cause the mta is the only way i could get to school so i havent been to school since october 14. im getting a bad record for my college cause im not going to school so the fucking mta better start working or else im going to make a law suit at the mtcause is affecting my school record

So many people pay for their own health care and the mechanics (who are paid very well) fuck up their own health care fund. Screw them. So many people need jobs right now and they use their union to hide their own incompetance.

Your getting paid, when theres so many people in need of employment. You don't realize when your being blessed. You complain of paying part of your health care. I would be greatful to have benefits. Put it in gods hand and not in man. GOd bless you all.

Is the strike over yet?

This MTA strike is affecting my relationship with my boyfriend. We just hooked up and we can't find a way to see each other. He lives way deep in south central and i live in Hollywood. I need to get some quick!!! So when will this end because i can't see my boo.

what the hell? Every full time job I've received I paid $30.00 a week in medical.. Granted, the pay raise gets nulled by the increase in insurance payments, yet the takehome is about 1000.00 dollars anyway! If you don't end the bitch now, MTA will fking raise their fares and then the BRU is going to kick MTA's a$$! The BRU has worked hard as hell to prevent the MTA from a forced 'day pass'. You know that if rates goes up, then the fking fares will go up. and that makes customers like me mad as hell

Fuck mta mechanic & Bus Driver, they dont care anybody. everybody lose job, student can't go to school, disable can't go anywere, they are self esteem.

All MTA drivers and mechanics care about is there pocket book they are not concerned about the public at all. The quality of service over the years has degraded beyond repair. I believe MTA workers should get a pay cut, because they lack customer service skills. Most of the drivers I see today are selfish, arrogant, and demand respect without showing any respect towards their customers. The more money and benefits they get the greedier and arrogant they get. More people should stand up against giving them any benefits this way we can send union officials a message that they are on losing ground. In the current state of unemployment people need to make sacrifices and be happy that they still have a job. I hope the MTA replaces its workers for cheaper staff. I look at the LADOT workers who get paid much less than MTA workers and they seem more friendlier. People should make fliers and post them at bus stops telling the union the stop the strike and criticizing the mayor Los Angeles for doing nothing by not subcontracting other bus drivers. By undermining the public support for the union and attacking government officials for not doing their job the strike would end sooner.

Some of the comments here hardly deserve a response due to their stupidity, but MTA mechanics work on some of the most advanced vehicles in the country. Nearly the entire fleet is compressed natural gas (very dangerous over 3000 psi) with advanced control systems requiring a great deal of skill and training to work on. Despite this, MTA mechanics' pay and benefits pale in comparison to most government agencies in the southland. LAUSD mechanics currently make $29.97 per hour and city mechanics make over $30 per hour with incredible benefits to boot. The fact is that all of these mechanics have gone to trade school and continue to get training. MTA mechanics and other skilled laborers who put their time and effort into bettering themselves are being short changed. A strike is the only way to show these politicians we will not be short changed without a fight. Unfortunately the public gets caught in the cross fire. My apologizes go out to those who are adversely affected. And to those who can only throw profanities towards us because they are paid far less, go to trade school and get a job that actually challenges you, and your infantile vocabulary!

Hang in there mechanics! This entire thing is MTA management's unwillingness to be fair and reasonable. Let's see them take a pay cut, a loss of benefits, more work for less pay. The amazing thing is, they've got all the morons posting here blaming you working guys... a typical aristocracy move; program the peasants so they will only revolt against their own class. It's perfect class warfare waged by the rich to keep the masses down. When will the moron peasants learn, it's the rich bastards at the top who want everyone else to sacrifice basic needs for their wealth and largesse. Fight MTA management, not the mechanics, morons. Just wait, you'll see, when Shrub steals 2004, you'll all be begging the rich to lick their boots and eat the crumbs from their tables and they'll blame you for being slobby, dirty, and poor. Is the strike over yet? These are tough times, with cuts in spending everywhere. Its natural that they'd cut expenses in Medical as well. I think that's a better option than them letting people go. Tough times... alot of people unemployed. Everyone wants a piece of their pie. No one wants to give anything up. These damn unions are the reason why so many jobs are going overseas. It costs too much to make anything here. Unions had their purpose in the past... but not anymore. Blame your leaders for the mess they've created.
