well, apple's newest product was announced, and is, of course, cool as hell. pricy, though.

5g hard drive is cool, but without a mac to hook it to, it's just another mp3 player. once again, the speculation was so much greater: http://www.spymac.com/ - the mac-a-bout!

i'm not sure, but it sounds to me like it will act as a standard firewire hard-drive. hopefully that means you'd be able to copy mp3s to it, even if you wouldn't get a pretty interface, on non-macs. (apple has been pretty independent on digital-rights management stuff, so i'm assuming it doesn't have to go through something special to work, like my mp3 player does.)

the thing that most impresses me about it is the weight, really. you can already get other portable hard-drive mp3 players, but they all weigh at least twice as much as the ipod. (which weighs about the same as my mp3-player/camera.)

and i'm sure this won't be the last cool device from apple.

the toshiba 20g hard-drive that ate itself in my laptop was the size of 6-8 credit cards stacked. it was incredible. speaking of which, have you seen memory prices lately? $60 for 512M (pc133) from kingston. amazing.
