maybe it’s just me, but time seems to be moving very slowly at the end of summer this year. i have a feeling i’m going to be bouncing off the walls this labor day weekend.
“speechwriting in perspective: a brief guide to effective and persuasive communication” is an interesting piece from the congressional research division at the library of congress. i love all the little rhetorical flourishes of good speechwriting, and this explains most of them.
daniel c. dennett, a professor of philosophy at tufts university, dissects the intelligent design hoax in the new york times.

i saved a birthday card from a girl i went to high school and worked with. (coincidentally enough, sara.) it actually says “stay as sweet as you are.”
mickey champion performs every tuesday night at little pedro’s, the oldest bar in los angeles, located over in the arts district. i really need to go over there some day and catch her show. it includes free fried chicken and cornbread at 11pm.
