jakob nielsen can kiss my ass

no, i don't really have anything against jakob nielsen. i think he says lots of great things, actually. i was just re-reading his microcontent: headlines and subject lines article, and realized that nearly all of the headlines i've used in recent posts violate the written in plain language: no puns, no cute or clever headlines test. i think i use titles most when i'm trying to be cute or clever. the exception is when i want to claim a google position. (and i'll add that i'm disappointed that google can't handle the »s and «s in my page titles. we'll see if it handles the numeric version of those entities better.)

I think it's about time that money grabbing spam inventor got a taste of what the internet is all about. His site has FAILED his online test! Read this:--

W3 & the Nielsen Norman Group preach usability and are both in cahoots with each other. However, Even though marketing a product called "Lift" for a whopping $549 per copy, both www.useit.com (Nielsen's site) and www.w3.org fail their own benchmarks and Nielsen's online test proves it!

I have re-evaluated my theories on website design and IE after watching my computer with a hardware and software firewall + anti virus and MS anti spyware and all the windows updates get a rootkit installed though all the security via IE 6.

I have switched to Firefox, I am re-designing my site and tell this story of caution that even the best of us get caught out.

As for Jacob - he has many good points but his site still looks like cosmopolitan ice cream! My new site will be validated by W3C and will adopt many usability standards whilst still being asphetically pleasing to the eye without having to tailor the look towards Walls' intranet.
