in the new york times, john markoff writes about how computer industry growth may be stymied by people getting off the upgrade treadmill. the real danger is the business market (twice the size of the consumer market), where i think there's even fewer clock-cycle-chewing applications on the horizon and a bigger incentive for companies to stretch their spending with the market tanking.
in other news, dell introduced a new, lower-cost lcd display because of reduced supply costs. i can only hope a price-drop on imacs is on the way for similar reason. (right now it's a race between a price drop and refurbished 17" imacs showing up.)
