d'oh! notice of rent increase. time to seriously consider apartment hunting again. (it's a 9% increase. my rent has increased 34% in five years. the apartment is not 34% better.)

Move to West Hollywood or Santa Monica. Rent control. One of my neighbors is paying next to nothing in rent. She has only lived here for 20 years or something like that.
And the house isn't completely falling apart. Ehr...
