slate's look at the poor (recent) record of the s&p 500 index is interesting. it will be fascinating to look back in ten years or so to see how the index continues to fare. (it's disappointing that the article didn't take much of a look at how similar situations played out in the history of the index. it's not like this was the first bubble to ever hit the market.)
