as stupid as i think the new top-level domains are, i'm very tempted to try registering 'show.biz' and 'travel.info', since they are reportedly the two highest-demand new possibilities. it's like playing the lottery!

but it would also be very tempting to just not commercialize the domains if i got them.

week 2 of the beast delivered brutal ratings. don't expect to see it last much longer. after seeing the "previously on the beast" bit at the beginning of the episode, it really seemed like they had skipped an episode or something. there were scenes i didn't remember from the first episode. the show just strains believability too much, although it definitely has an interesting style to it.

if, as john lennon says, "life is what happens when you're busy making other plans," what is it that happens when you're not making plans?

i just noticed something disappointing about weather.com's local weather info—they don't supply anything except forecasts and current conditions. i can't find out how hot it got today, or yesterday, or last week. it got quite hot today (at least 93°, which is what it was at 3:53pm today), but it didn't feel bad. the heat during the day isn't terrible, since the humidity is low (<30%, generally), but at night it doesn't cool off all that much, and the humidity jumps up over 60% and it is much less comfortable. i'm still surviving without air conditioning, though.

john lee hooker and carrol o'connor both passed away today. it always seems that celebrity deaths come in threes, so if you're a celebrity, watch out.

penn (of penn & teller) took a ride on a private version of nasa's vomit comet and wrote about the experience. sounds pretty cool (and, of course, the account is very well written). (via mefi.)

in the middle of writing something new for mr. cook, my computer decided to eat it. (yum!)

lucky for me, i was able to dump the memory on my laptop to a file and find an earlier revision lurking in there. now i just have to remember how i made it better since that revision, and do it again. i had actually gone through and applied "normal" capitalization. clearly i was being punished for that, and will not do it again.
