somewhere along the line, leeches regained status as a reasonable, if imperfect, solution to venous congestion (where veins clot up after reconstructive surgery). but leeches are gross. so university of wisconsin researchers have developed a mechanical leech. (no pictures, unfortunately.) science is cool.
