civilization iii comes out on october 30th. there's interview with jeff briggs and sid meier on zdnet. the screenshots look pretty, but i'm a little surprised they went back to the squares-with-bumpy things for mountains instead of using something like smac's three-dimensional surfaces. (i still love smac, but there's so many little things about the gameplay and interface i wish i could tweak. i wish firaxis would follow the lead of id and open-source their old games.)
todo item: patch wmx to highlight the tab of the current window differently. (or maybe shade all of them differently depending on stacking order. overlapping ones are hard to distinguish.) and fix the window cycling stuff.
it is a little disturbing to see the internet audit bureau called a key internet standards body. cpm is just such a dumb metric. it's an attempt to be way more precise than any other ad medium, even though the medium doesn't really support that precision. (in other ad news, metafilter added text ads.)
this review of michael jackson's benefit concert (taped for tv) is hilarious. one of my favorite quotes: "The waits continued, the show seemingly lasting forever. Most of the performers have to enroll their kids in the D.C. school system. Rod Stewart is now a naturalized U.S. citizen. Whomever you came with you're now legally married to. DMV employees in the audience have gotten impatient and left."
