speaking of screenplay writing, i've always loved this article by terry rossio & ted elliott (writers of aladdin, the mask of zorro, shrek, an unproduced script based on the sandman comics written by neil gaiman, and other stuff). the lesson of the article (strive to do the best, not just "crap plus one") is absolutely one to live by even outside of writing a screenplay.

First of all, the link's broken- pointing to trainedmonkey. Second, it's funny that they would write something about doing more than "crap + one" since they can't even pull off the "crap " part. Aladdin? Robin Williams was the only interesting element to that flick. From my experience, they are both hacks. They had VERY little to do with the final Shrek script and I've heard the same about Zorro. Maybe Puppetmaster was good... (and maybe the article is good too?) Or maybe I'm just bitter that they keep getting work.
