He was funnier because he wasn't dealing with the bastards that are ruining this country. Dropping us into bottomless debt, totally ruining the environment, leaving millions of children behind and basically lying his ass off.
Just as a point of observation about getting it right before you slame someone Al Frankin was never Jack Handey, that was a character created by another SNL cast member later murdered by his wife. Al Frankin could have done the character but he did not so for John Campbell to make the observaton that Mr. Frankin was funner as Jack Handey is just another case of a misinformed person trying to sound like they know somthing... sad sad sad.
"Just as a point of observation about getting it right before Al Franken slams somebody?" Is that what you said? Oh no, I'm sorry, that was the head line in the New York Post today. Al Franken, has little to offer, save some wise cracks and these kinds of episodes where he explodes into someone in the crowd lifting them off thier feet and droping them to the ground. I will say, he is funny. Body slamming protesters at a political rally is a great way to SHUT UP anyone who disagrees with you. Folks, if Al Franken is your savior on the left. You are all in big, big trouble.
The New York Post is the biggest rag in the US. It's Fox News in print. What a joke!
Foxs news is a bunch of false conservative crap direct from Murdoch.

That Al Frankin is so much funnier as Jack Handey than he is as Al Frankin... It's weird.
