this is above the entrance of the 12-story addition to the pacific mutual building. reportedly the redwood tree was representative of pacific mutual’s logo at the time. (now the company is known as <a href="http://www.pacificlife.com/">pacific life</a> and their logo features a whale. their headquarters is also now in newport beach, not the pacific center.)
