the tides of time by john brunner is an odd book. it basically is a bunch of stories about a couple experiencing different scenarios further and further back in time. it doesn’t entirely work, and i think that is because you never really know why they are skipping backwards in time until the end of the book. i think this may be my least favorite brunner book that i’ve read to date.

so many bounce messages and vacation messages and spam whitelisting services and other automated responses. i was far too nice with my notify-before-data-transfer clause in the privacy policy.
i guess i know now what i’ll be doing with the next few weekends.
lessons learned
- when you say “personal data,” specify exactly what it means (in this case, email address and list of favorite blogs)
- send the mail with a
From:
header different than the email to respond to from within the body - if you tell people they can do something by email, make them put a special command in the
Subject:
or body so you can tell what they really mean
it doesn’t help matters that my php.net address (and the aliases i’m on) seems to be getting flooded with some sort of strange german political spam.
the strange german spam is actually the result of a worm/virus, and here’s some spamassassin rules to kill these german messages.
