i missed this article about the classic joy of cooking cookbook from salon a couple of weeks ago. i'd dispute the claim that there's no food network equivalent—good eats and even 30 minute meals both have that sort of no-nonsense cooking-should-be-fun-and-easy vibe to them. (i also find that i use how to cook everything more than joy of cooking, although i tend to just follow the recipe the first time i make something and explore from there on subsequent tries.)

i think it is funny that the people who corrected jon udell about the location of “pomona's” ontario airport (los angeles county, not orange county) didn't also bother to point out that it is in ontario, not pomona. oh, and it's in san bernardino county.
