reading macworld (i got a free one year subscription somewhere along the way), i found mention that the new version of watson will have an upgraded stocks module that will track portfolio value. nice. i was thinking of writing my own tool to do this. (and still might, if the new stocks module isn't up to snuff. i've been itching to write a cocoa application, anyway.)
this how-to on creating a debian package. this describes the totally manual process of building a package, which is probably good background to have so you can deal with any leak abstractions that you end up using. (it also does much to deflate the myth i had built up in my head that building rpms was much easier than debian packages.)
the los angeles times has a good article on the sorry state of the educatonal software market. i think the tone of the article gives too much credit to entertainment software squeezing the educational and edutainment software out. knowledge adventure and the learning co. went down a path of mutally-assured destruction that basically left the companies as mere shadows of what they were, and drove a large number of very creative people away.
