this article about accessible html tables does a great job of explaining some of the lesser-known features of html tables. i ran across the article while trying to find something that rationalizes using div and tricky css to lay out forms instead of a table. while it is possible, it seems like more trouble than it is worth, and i don't see how using div and span does anything to improve the accessibility of the form. (i know that using labels and fieldsets is a good idea, but you can still use those with a table layout for the forms.)
just one of the minor (but interesting) issues i'm wrestling with in beginning to implement a new web design for the ol' day job.
