activebuddy is neat and all, but i wish journalists would question the "first-ness" of it a bit. bots have been a common fixture of irc for years. early on in my last job, we had an irc bot we could boss around to do some of the maintenance chores.
signs of life at upi! after more than a month since the last time i contacted them, today i got a two-slide powerpoint presentation that shows what i guess are the components of their "webline" service. but that's it. the email had no subject, and no content other than the powerpoint presentation and the contact info for the "regional manager" who sent it. needless to say, the slides don't include pricing information. (after all, it wasn't like i clearly asked for it.)
hey, i just said there's signs of life, not intelligent life.
