Trained Monkey Corporation   History
Monkeys with books.

The Trained Monkey Corporation was founded in 1927 by Professor James Fleming growing out of his research at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. His research with primates furthered some of the earliest research conducted in England -- which showed that monkeys were incredibly intelligent and talented.

Dr. Fleming learned through his research that the early experiments in using large numbers of monkey to produce great artistic achievement were expensive and ultimately untenable. But by providing monkeys with some rudimentary training on how to actually operate typewriters, a greater volume of work could be performed by fewer monkeys. This training naturally tainted the creativity slightly, but in generating mass-media that is frequently acceptable if not expected.

For decades, Dr. Fleming's trained monkeys worked in Hollywood and New York creating some of the most influential movies and novels of their time. Under numerous pseudonyms, monkeys that had received his training were responsible for a large percentage of the programming in the early days of television (and now with today's demand for new content by growing cable and broadcast networks, the majority of it). In late 1993, Dr. Fleming was introduced to the Internet and the growing presence of Web sites. He quickly realized the ramifications of this new medium -- individuals and businesses would surely flock to it to create more content than ever before in the history of the modern mass media. Much as desktop publishing made everybody a newsletter editor and publisher, the web would allow everyone to become a creator and broadcaster of electronic media. Someone would have to support corporate America (and eventually, the world) in creating the content for this vast new media. This is when the Trained Monkey Corporation opened its doors here on the Internet.

Now, the Trained Monkey Corporation provides a wide-range of services for developing web sites from programming to design and redesign. The training techniques pioneered by Dr. Fleming have been updated for the new millenium, assuring a steady supply of affordable labor in the Information Overload Age.
